Writing Workshop: Do You Have a Story to Tell? With Rene Steinke and Rosie Schaap

Meet the authors:

Rosie Schaap is the author of the memoir Drinking With Men (Riverhead Books), named one of the best books of 2013 by National Public Radio, Library Journal, and BookPage. The drink columnist for The New York Times Magazine since 2011, and a contributor to This American Life, she has also written for Al Jazeera America, Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, Gather, Lucky Peach, Marie Claire, The New York Times dining section, poetryfoundation.org, Saveur, Slate, and Travel + Leisure. She has contributed essays to many anthologies, including Here She Comes Now: Women in Music Who Have Changed Our Lives (Rare Bird Books, 2015), and Tales of Two Cities: The Best and Worst of Times in Today’s New York (Penguin, 2015).  A native New Yorker, she lives in Brooklyn and is writing a book about whiskey.
 
 

René Steinke’s most recent novel, Friendswood (Riverhead), was named one of National Public Radio’s Best Books of 2014. Friendswood was shortlisted for the St. Francis Literary Prize, and it was an Amazon Book of the Month. Her previous novel, Holy Skirts, an imaginative retelling of the life of the artist and provocateur, Baroness Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven, was a Finalist for the National Book Award. Her first novel is The Fires. Her essays and articles have appeared in The New York Times, Vogue, O Magazine, Salon, Bookforum, and in anthologies. She is the former Editor of The Literary Review, where she remains Editor-at-Large. She has taught at the New School and at Columbia University, and she is currently the Director of the MFA program in Creative Writing at Fairleigh Dickinson University. She lives in Brooklyn.
