FDU MFA Alum Jeff Vasishta’s Latest Interview: Louise Erdrich

Posted by FDU MFA in Alumni Profiles, Books, Worth Reading

Earlier this month, Fairleigh Dickinson Univeristy MFA alum Jeff Vasishta interviewed Louise Erdrich whose new novel, LaRose (Harper), is now out. Jeff asks, “LaRose and The Round House were, in part, about the welfare of boys in a very adult world. What attracts you to them as subject matter?” Read more of this conversation at Interview Magazine.

As a music journalist Jeff Vasishta spent over two decades interviewing a slew of legends. Prince, Beyonce, Dr. Dre, Herbie Hancock and Quincy Jones are a few of the people who have been quizzed by him. Writing for Billboard, yahoo.com and the British publication “Blues & Soul”, Jeff realized that in order to grow as a writer he had to step out of his comfort zone of entertainment journalism. He’d long harbored a desire to write fiction and so after completing his undergrad at the New School as part of the Riggio Writing and Democracy program and his MFA at Fairleigh Dickinson, he has recently completed his first novel, “Famous Last Words” fittingly enough about a music journalist who gets the chance to interview a musical hero. Jeff is still an active journalist, writing Op-Ed pieces for AM New York and NY Newsday and Feature stories for Interview Magazine.
